A recent report by Local Circle shows that around 41% of the respondents are unsure about their ability to comply with government regulations. Positively, 59 per cent of the respondents said that they have already submitted their tax returns.

According to a recent study by LocalCircles, 10% of taxpayers have attempted to file their tax returns but faced difficulties. The number of people who intend to file their tax returns through the government portal but have gone through the same has increased from 4% in the earlier study to 10%. Further, 9% of the respondents said they would not be able to file their ITR by the deadline, and 13% indicated that a lot of work would be required to do so by July 31.

The new survey which asked individual income tax payers, “How are you going to be able to file your personal income tax return for FY 2021-22 by the current deadline of July 31”, revealed that 59 out of 11,081 respondents % had filed his own. ITR, while another 9% indicated that they would be able to do so in the next few days. While 13% of respondents said that meeting the deadline would require “significant effort”, 9% admitted that meeting the deadline would be impossible, which the government has indicated will not be changed. For those who are still trying to file their ITR, 10% of the respondents complained of “difficulty in filing” but expressed willingness to do so.

Over 11,000 responses were received from citizens of 306 districts in India. 69% of the respondents were male while 31% were female. 44% of citizens were from metros or tier 1 districts, 33% from tier 2 districts and 23% from tier 3, 4 and rural districts. The survey was conducted through the LocalCircles platform and all the participants are valid citizens who had to be registered with the LocalCircles to participate in this survey.
