The San Francisco-based company will absorb the entire 40-member team of Hyderabad-based Automate.io, which will continue to operate in the city.

The six-year-old Automate.io was founded by Ashok Gudibandla, who will lead Notion’s India team in his new role.

Notion’s Chief Operating Officer Akshay Kothari told ET that India is an important market for growth and talent.

“This India is an incredible story for SaaS. This company which is mostly bootstrapped and very low key has built the best product we have seen in the market,” said Kothari, who was LinkedIn India’s head of operations until 2018. Said. “We are focused on integrating Automate technology inside Notion for the short term, but for the long term, we are excited to invest more in India.”

This will be Notion’s first engineering hub outside the United States, where the company will continue to hire engineering talent.

“India is a really important market for us. This acquisition accelerates the work of our platform, but it also gives us an amazing engineering center in Hyderabad. So far, engineering has only been in San Francisco and New York. Hence, this will be our first engineering center outside the US,” Kothari said.

Dharana is looking to tap into India’s developer community and create a strong go-to-market strategy for the country.

“We have startups and large companies using it, but I think there is a lot more we can do here in terms of providing better support and onboarding for all sorts of upcoming startups, just in case we go off the ground. But can do a lot for the market,” he said.

He said the company’s long-term mission was to allow developers to build their own software tools on Notion.
