Startups are moving to the campuses of Indian Institutes of Technology this placement season.

Hungry for expanding technology talent, these players — some of them unicorns, or firms with valuations of $1 billion or more — are all chasing new engineers. These include giants such as those owned by Walmart. Flipkart and edtech firms byju’s, like freshly made unicorns CarDekho, razorpay And no broker, as well as others like Indus Insights, who all want to increase campus hires from IITs by 2-5 times this year.

Job profiles in demand include Software Development Engineers, Associate Product Managers/Developers, Data Analysts, AI/ML Engineers, Front-end and Back-end Engineers.

Krishna Raghavan, Chief People Officer, Flipkart, told ET, “Our hiring numbers for roles in technology this year are 2x as compared to last year, which also includes the pool of engineering recruiters from IITs. Like last year, Flipkart is “inducting all IITs including new IIT campuses in Bhubaneswar, Indore and Hyderabad,” he said.

Most of these startups are visiting more IITs this year and recruiting more engineers from campuses they visited last year. Grofers, Amazon, Zeta, Udaan, Cohesity, Unacademy and UpGrad are other prominent startups and unicorns that are flocking to IITs this year to recruit technical talent.

Abhishek Kumar, head of the Center for Career Development at IIT Guwahati, said there is a constant demand for engineers as many startups and new recruiters are visiting the campus for the first time. These wealthy unicorns and startups are eager to expand and expand their reach.

Byju is recruiting from other IITs including Roorkee, Madras, Varanasi (BHU), Kanpur. Chief Public Officer Praveen Prakash said, “As we expand our product portfolio and our product portfolio in new geographies, we are looking at targeted hiring from IITs to drive our various initiatives.”

Razorpay intends to double its recruitment across all IITs this year. Chief Technology Akhil Gupta said, “Our first employees recruited 5-7 years back from IITs are currently working with us in senior positions handling different teams… officers at NoBroker.

CarDekho intends to hire 21 engineers in the final placement season this year and the same number of engineers as summer interns. Last year, it hired nine engineers from IIT campuses.
