The vision of the Investor Charter is to “protect the interests of investors by enabling them to understand the risks involved and to make investments in a fair, transparent, safe market and receive services in a timely and efficient manner.”
The rights include seeking fair and equitable treatment, and expecting redressal of investor complaints filed with SCORES in a time bound manner.
It also includes access to quality services from SEBI recognized market infrastructure institutions and SEBI registered intermediaries, regulated entities and asset management companies as per the charter.
SEBI also fixed the dos and don’ts of investors.
SEBI said, “Redressal of investor grievances is an important step towards investor protection.
It added that SEBI now publishes a status report regarding settlement of investor complaints received on the SCORES portal on the website on a monthly basis.
“A mechanism has been put in place whereby all intermediaries/entities regulated by SEBI shall disclose the average time taken for redressal of investor complaints received by them on their respective websites in the format specified by SEBI, beginning January 2022, “It said.
SEBI said it has put in place an alternative dispute redressal mechanism for complaints against brokers, depository participants at the level of stock exchanges and depositories.
SEBI is examining the possibility of setting up a common mechanism for various services provided by other registered intermediaries/entities.
