if tweet Twitter Supposedly, due to non-compliance of Know Your Customer (KYC) Regulations, (SBI) has frozen the accounts of many customers. The customers of the bank tweeted tagging the official handle and registered their complaints regarding the same on Twitter.

To one of the customers, SBI replied: As per RBI order, customers should get their KYC updated from time to time. Hence, customers whose KYC updates are due are informed through multiple channels, one of them being SMS. Based on this notification one can visit any of our branch to update his/her KYC details or send a copy of his/her KYC documents to his/her branch email id through their registered mail id (if KYC details are unchanged) Is. Hope this clarifies your doubt.

To another customer, the bank replied in a tweet: “We would like to inform you that KYC is a continuous process to be done at regular intervals. It looks like your account is due KYC, so message has been sent to you. Please visit the branch and get it done for smooth operation of the account.”

How to Update KYC Details in SBI

Customers need to update their KYC information by emailing or mailing a copy of their identity and address proof to their bank branch.

If you opt for the online route, the required documents should be sent from your registered email address to the branch’s email address.

According to SBI’s website, these are the documents that are accepted as proof of identity/address for updating KYC:

for individuals

  • Passport
  • voter id card
  • driving license
  • Aadhar card/card
  • NREGA Card
  • pan card
  • Any one document for proof of identity and proof of address (permanent or current).

for small accounts

When it comes to children, identity documents must be provided for the person managing the account, if the child is less than 10 years of age. The same KYC approach will be used for address identification and verification of an individual as if a minor is managing his account independently.

For NRI accounts

Passport and Residence Visa Copies, duly attested:

  • foreign Office
  • notary public
  • Indian Embassy
  • Officers of the correspondent banks whose signatures are verifiable through the authorized (A/B Category Foreign Exchange Management Branch) branch of the bank.
