Over 8.83 crore unique taxpayers Logged into the new income tax portal by 7th September, with the daily average in the month exceeding 15.55 lakhs Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) said on Wednesday.

It has been three months since the new Income Tax Portal was launched on 7th September.

Taxpayers and professionals have since reported discrepancies and difficulties in the portal. The Finance Ministry said that it is regularly monitoring the resolution of the issues

which is the managed service provider for the project.

“It is reiterated that the department continues to engage with Infosys to ensure a smooth filing experience to the taxpayers,” the board said in a statement.

The Board said that several technical issues are being addressed progressively and the figures of various filings on the portal show a positive trend.

Income Tax Return (ITR) filing has increased to 3.2 lakhs per day in September, 2021 and 1.19 crores ITRs have been filed for AY 2021-22.

Of these, over 76.2 lakh taxpayers have used the portal’s online utility for filing returns, the board said.

“It is encouraging to note that more than 94.88 lakh ITRs have also been e-verified, which is required for processing by the Centralized Processing Centre. Out of this, 7.07 lakh ITRs have been processed,” the board said.

As per the data shared by the board, taxpayers have been able to see over 8.74 lakh notices issued by the department under faceless assessment/appeal/penalty proceedings, for which over 2.61 lakh responses have been registered.

On an average 8,285 notices are being issued for e-action and 5,889 responses are being registered on a daily basis in September, 2021.

Over 10.60 lakh statutory forms have been submitted including 7.86 lakh TDS details, 1.03 lakh Form 10A for registration of trusts/institutions, 0.87 lakh Form 10E for arrears of salary, 0.10 lakh Form 35 for appeal.

Aadhaar- PAN linking has been done by 66.44 lakh taxpayers and over 14.59 lakh e-PANs have been allotted.

The Board said that in September, 2021 more than 0.50 lakh taxpayers are availing these two facilities on a daily basis.
