According to data provided by the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (Irdai), a total of 24 general insurers saw a 9.3 per cent growth in their collective gross direct premium income from Rs 15,648.63 crore in August to Rs 17,101.75 crore in August. years ago period.

The five standalone health insurance providers reported a 28 per cent increase in their gross direct premium income to Rs 2,059.38 crore during the month. In August 2021, this figure was Rs 1,609.75 crore.

The remaining two special public sector insurers in the non-life sector saw their combined premium income increase by 15.2 per cent in August 2022 to Rs 5,310.82 crore as against Rs 4,609.55 crore a year ago.

On a cumulative basis, the gross direct premium income of all 31 players grew by 18.57 per cent to Rs 1,02,357.29 crore in the April-August period of 2022-23. It was Rs 86,329.09 crore in the same period of 2021-22.
