Launched its first offline store For fresh fruits and vegetables in Bangalore. Menon said the Bengaluru-based company plans to open 200 such stores by the financial year 2023 and increase the number to 800 by 2026.

Fresco stores will essentially sell fresh fruits and vegetables in-store. However, to access BigBasket’s wide range of 50,000 products, customers can place orders online through the Fresho app and collect them at the store at their convenience, Menon told ET.

It is still not decided whether Fresho will also come to the main BigBasket app. Fresho is a private brand of BigBasket under which it sells fruits, eggs and vegetables on the platform.

“We want to be everything in the kirana (business). It is very strategic in nature as a major part of the customers still want offline shopping for groceries and fresh supplies. The total addressable market is huge,” Menon told ET after the store’s launch on Wednesday. “There will be a fair share of users who remain physical.”

According to the company, this will help it reach 500 million new users over time. Menon said that this is an important development opportunity.

Each Fresco store will be around 2,000 square feet in size and will require an investment of Rs 50-70 lakh.

The Fresho store launched in Bengaluru has integrated self-billing counters with video AI tools that enable customers to select items of their choice and weigh them at the counter through automated computer vision and bill accordingly.
