Since the launch of the new Income Tax Portal in June 2021, the portal has been full of glitches. Users of the website (e.g. DIY Tax Filers, Chartered Accountants) have complained about incomplete/incorrect data relating to the previous year. Earlier, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman had given time till September 15, 2021 to Infosys (the company that created the new income tax portal) to fix all the glitches on the websites. Due to frequent glitches, several Chartered Accountants’ Associations, taxpayers asked the government to extend the due date for filing ITR. Currently, the due date for filing ITR for the financial year 2020-21 is December 31, 2021. This due date is applicable for individuals whose accounts are not required to be audited.
