BNP Paribas Where is the promotion Sanjay Singh for the head of India Area effective January 1.

Singh, who is currently the chief executive officer of the French bank’s India banking unit, will take over from Aymar de Liedekerke Beaufort, who heads the India region, from September 2021.

In an e-mail response, a BNP Paribas spokesperson said the promotion would be subject to regulatory approval.

In his new role, Singh will be in charge of BNP’s back-office operations and retail brokerage arm Sharekhan. BNP’s banking branch in India has about 450 officers, while other businesses employ about 14,500 people. Singh’s appointment as CEO of BNP’s domestic unit in September 2021 was a departure from the bank’s tradition of appointing mostly French nationals for its India operations.

BNP established its operations in India in 1860. The bank operates a corporate and institutional banking franchise in the country. BNP Paribas has closed its domestic arm that catered to the nation’s wealthy investors in 2020 after two decades of existence in the country.
