Onam is a harvest festival celebrated in the Indian state of Kerala. Onam commemorates the good governance that existed under the reign of Mahabali, a mythical king who ruled Kerala. To celebrate the same, banks will remain closed in Kerala for Onam.

Banks in India are closed by location as festivals differ from state to state. Every year, RBI prepares a list of holidays and the date on which they occur. All banks including public and private sectors, co-operative banks and regional banks across the country will remain closed on declared holidays, depending on the state.

Banks in Kerala remain closed on these dates

September 7, 2022 – 1st Onam – Kochi, Thiruvananthapuram

September 8, 2022 – Thiruvonam – Kochi, Thiruvananthapuram

September 10, 2022 – Sri Naravane Guru Javanti- Kochi, Thiruvananthapuram

September 21, 2022 – Sree Narayana Guru Samadhi Day – Kochi, Thiruvananthapuram

People are urged to check the holiday dates in their home states before scheduling any banking related work. However, most banking transactions can be done online and through mobile devices despite these bank holidays.
