There was a time when payment apps like and PhonePe Cashback to encourage users to pay their utility bills using their platform. Now, these apps have started charging their customers platform fee To recharge your mobile number, pay electricity bill etc.

What is the Platform Fee?

As per the PhonePe app, the platform fee for using PhonePe for recharge/bill payments, regardless of the payment mode, is a nominal fee and includes GST, However, if mobile recharge Failing that, the platform fee along with the recharge amount paid (including GST) will be refunded to you.

How much do you have to pay as platform fee?

To recharge your mobile number using Paytm app, you will be charged a platform fee of Re 1 for each mobile recharge. The PhonePe app charges a platform fee of Rs 2.

On mobile recharge of Rs 296, you will have to pay Rs 297 on Paytm app and Rs 298 on PhonePe app.

One interesting thing to note is that not everyone is being charged this platform fee; It is being charged from select users only. Thus, if you are not being charged this fee, you may be charged this Platform fee in the future.

According to netizens, making electricity bill payment through Paytm app is being charged Rs 5 for each transaction.

Although the above screenshot shows Re 1 as the platform fee, however, the charges are different for other users.

However, it is important to note that other payment apps like Google Pay are not charging such fees. Also, if a person uses the mobile number operator’s own site or app to do mobile recharge and uses these apps to make payments, the platform fee is not levied.
