The government has increased the Dearness Relief (DR) component for central government employees by 4% with effect from July 1, 2022. As per the Office Memorandum (OM) of the Department of Pension and Pensioners’ Welfare, the DR has been increased to 38%. DOPPW).

According to the Office Memorandum dated October 8, 2022, “The President is pleased to decide that the Dearness Relief admissible to Central Government Pensioners/Family Pensioners shall be increased from the existing rate of 34% to 38% with effect from 01.07. ”

Apart from the DR hike, the government has also increased dearness allowance. And with the same percentage. The increase in DA will benefit Central Government employees, Central Government pensioners and family pensioners receiving pension from the Central Government.

According to DoPPW’s tweet, “DOPPW India has issued orders on 08.10.2022 for enhancement of Dearness Relief to Central Government Pensioners/Family Pensioners from 34% of Basic Pension/Family Pension to 38%. The revised rate is effective from 01.07.2022.

The DR is usually declared twice a year in the months of September and March. According to the pensioner portal, “Hence in the months of January and February, the DR on pension/family pension will be calculated as per the DR rates available for the month of December of the previous year. Similarly, for the month of July and August, the DR of The calculation will be done on the basis of DR rates available for the month of June.

These rates of DR will be applicable to the following categories:

  • Citizen Central Government pensioners/family pensioners including Central Government. Pensioners absorbed in PSUs/Autonomous Bodies in respect of whom orders have been issued vide this Department’s OM No. 4/34/2002-P&PW(D) Vol-II dated 23.06.2017, after the expiry of commutation period of 15 years for restoration of full pension after.
  • Armed Forces pensioners, civilian pensioners paid from defense service estimates.
  • All India Service Pensioners
  • Railway Pensioners/Family Pensioners
  • Pensioners who are receiving provisional pension
  • Burma Civil Pensioners/Family Pensioners and Pensioners/Families of Government Pensioners displaced from Burma/Pakistan, in respect of whom orders have been issued vide this Department’s OM No.23/3/2008-P&PW(B) dated 11.09.2017 went.

Note that while making the payment of Dearness Relief, the fractional rupee payment should be rounded off to the next higher rupee.

As per DoPPW’s Office Memorandum, it will be the responsibility of Pension Disbursing Officers including Nationalized Banks etc. to calculate the quantum of DR payable in each individual case.
